Marc Melanson has been employed by the City of Dieppe since 1996 and has been the City Manager since 2007. The municipality has experienced phenomenal growth with the population doubling in the past fifteen years reaching 25,384 in 2016.
Marc has been working in the municipal sector for over 32 years. He has worked with municipal councils in two municipalities as a director for more than 20 years and as the City Manager for more than 12 years. He was employed as the Director of Recreation for the community of Lamèque and later took over the same position in Dieppe.
Marc has a Bachelor's Degree in Recreation with a minor in Administration from the University of Moncton. He is also a member of the Association of Municipal Administrators of New Brunswick. Customer service, teamwork and responsible management are values that have led him to integrate the "Lean Six Sigma" approach in his organization for six years. He participates in various training opportunities in order to follow the trends affecting the municipal environment.
On the international scene, he is responsible for partnerships with Dieppe (France) and Carencro (Louisiana).
His love for municipal work has earned him many awards in the recreation field, including the Recreation Workers Association of New Brunswick on two occasions, and he has served as the New Brunswick Representative to the Canadian Association of Parks and Recreation. In 2014, he received the Hermel Courturier Award for having distinguished himself in his career through his hard work, impact and commitment to the creation community.
He was also Vice-Chair of the Nominating Committee for Southeast NB and PEI for the “2019 Congrès Mondial Acadien” and is currently a member of the organizing committee for the event that will be held in August 2019.
