Jeff Gushue’s working career began in 1988 as the Recreation Director for the Town of Annapolis Royal, NS. Opportunity called and he moved on to the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth, NS in late 1989 as their Recreation Director. He remained in that role for 12 years. While in this position with the District of Yarmouth, he led the amalgamation of the Recreation Departments of the Town of Yarmouth and the District of Yarmouth into one combined service.

In late 2001, he took a brief hiatus from Municipal work and lead a stroke research project for Dalhousie University, based in Yarmouth, NS. In 2004, he returned to Municipal work, in his dream job as Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Yarmouth, where he remains to this day.

As the CAO of a small town that serves as the regional centre for a much larger population, Gushue notes that a key factor to success is working collaboratively with neighbours to provide shared services and achieve economies of scale. Yarmouth County is very proud of their numerous formal partnerships and the resulting services and facilities.

A CAMA member since 2006, he holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation and Physical Education (Acadia 1988), as well as a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (Saint Mary’s 2000).  Along with his wife, he lives outside Yarmouth in the beautiful community of Belleville, NS with their five children.
