Determine Questions for Interviewing Education Providers
Consider these sample questions for interviewing education providers or individual instructors. The questions cover the following areas
- experience and services
- teaching and evaluation methods, and
- previous work with joint committees.
Before the interview, review information packages, resumes, and references for qualifications and experience.
What are the experiences and services of the provider?
- What is your experience in workplace learning and literacy, particularly experience working with municipalities?
- What models of education do you offer (instructor-led classes; tutoring, computer-assisted, learning centre)?
- What are your costs and what do they include?
What are the provider’s teaching and evaluation methods?
- How do you find out what participants need and want to learn?
- What is included in your individual assessments?
- How do you develop curriculum for teaching in a workplace?
- Who contributes to the planning
- What materials do you use in your curriculum?
- Please give some examples of learning activities that were successful.
- How do you deal with different learning styles? For example,
- teaching older workers to read and write
- teaching reading and writing to a mix of participants with English as a second language and with English as the first language
- How do you define success in learning for individuals and for a program?
- How do you evaluate individual progress? Who takes part in the evaluation and how?
- How do you evaluate the program? (who takes part and how?)
- How do you recognize completion of the course and success in learning?

- What is your experience working with joint committees?
- How would you prefer to work with our committee? What do you expect from us?
